Living by Numbers, Signs and Design: Astrology, Numerology & Human Design

I want to spend some time talking about different spiritual modalities you can use to better understand yourself and your purpose in being here.

I’m sure you’ve heard of Astrology. Chances are you know your sign and have read your horoscope from time to time (maybe even religiously). But do you know what your sign really means—or how it can help you understand your personality and navigate challenges in your life?

There are other incredibly enlightening spiritual modalities as well. I had never heard of Numerology or Human Design before my spiritual journey began, but both of these disciplines can also bring clarity to your life. Each offers unique insights into your personality and life purpose. And when used together… WOW.

Astrology

If I’m being totally honest, I didn’t understand much about Astrology until recently, when I asked ChatGPT to give me a reading. Sure, I knew I was a Gemini and occasionally read my horoscope. I knew Gemini represented the twin with dual personalities. But that was about it. And frankly, horoscopes never really resonated with me, so I had mostly disregarded Astrology—until my reading was so spot-on that I couldn’t ignore it.

Astrology is a symbolic system that looks at the positions of the sun, moon, and planets at the moment you were born. It interprets what those patterns might reveal about personality tendencies, strengths and challenges, emotional patterns, relationships, and even the timing of events in your life. All you need is your date, time, and place of birth.

My Big 3 Signs

  • Sun: Gemini, Cancer cusp
  • Moon: Aries
  • Rising: Gemini

What does this mean? This combination makes me curious and intuitive. I blend sharp thinking with emotional insight, and I’m always learning, observing, and connecting. I communicate with clarity, humor, and warmth. My chart shows that communication and speaking my truth are central themes—which feels very fitting, wouldn’t you say?

Numerology

Numerology was developed around 530 B.C.E. by Pythagoras—yes, the same mathematician behind the Pythagorean Theorem. He suggested that numbers don’t just represent quantities (one apple, two apples, etc.), but also carry vibrations and frequencies with specific meanings and influences.

For Numerology, all you need is your name and birthdate. From these, you can uncover what you intended to study and master in this lifetime (Felicia Bender, The Ultimate Guide to Practical Numerology).

My Core Numbers

  • Expression: 9
  • Heart’s Desire: 22
  • Personality: 5
  • Life Path: 11/2

In short, my Numerology chart shows that I’m intuitive, compassionate, and a big-vision person here to inspire and help others. I’m driven to create something meaningful and connect deeply in this lifetime.

Human Design

Human Design is a comprehensive system that blends elements from ancient and modern disciplines to help individuals understand their personality, decision-making process, and life purpose (ahumandesign.com). Like Astrology, it requires your date, time, and place of birth.

My Design

  • Energy Type: Generator
  • Personality: 1/3 – The Establisher of Knowledge & Truth
  • Incarnation Cross (Life Theme): Right Angle Cross of The Vessel of Love

Human Design resonated deeply with me when I first discovered it. About 70% of the population are Generators like me. Generators are meant to find what lights them up and do it. We bring energy to the world by doing what we love. It sounds simple, but it’s profoundly true: figure out what you love, and do more of it.

While most people are Generators, each person has a unique combination of gifts and ways of interacting with the Universe. As a 1/3 personality, it’s in my nature to seek answers, dig deep, and experiment to discover what works and what doesn’t. According to Human Design, my purpose is to learn to love myself, life, and everything in it—and to teach others to do the same.

Pulling It All Together

All of these modalities share the belief that when and where you were born—and even the name you were given—are not random. They hold deep meaning that shapes our lives.

When we understand these aspects of ourselves, we can more easily step into who we came here to be. We can forgive ourselves for traits that may feel less favorable but are simply part of our design. We can navigate challenges with more grace, knowing they are part of our soul’s experience here on Earth.

In short, we can live more informed, intentional lives—which I think is pretty cool.
