Big Life Changes

I think it’s finally time for me to finish this story.  Things have been busy, you know.  We’re moving.

So after my bulldog sign my husband and I had the big conversation and decided that since the topic just kept coming up, that we should follow our instincts and pursue the move.  The decision was made.

Now all that is well and good, but a heck of a lot goes into actually making that happen.  And here is where I, again, get to thank the Universe.  You see, early on when it became so clear to me that this thing was going to happen, I told my husband that I wasn’t at all worried about everything working out.  If the signs were so clearly pointing us toward moving, then the Universe would help make it happen.

# 1:  Hubby needs a new job.

# 2: We need a new place to live.

# 3: We need to sell our current home

Let me just say it.  Those are all HUGE life changing things.  And yet, they unfolded miraculously.

The new house actually materialized before the new job.  I literally had no idea what I was doing with this one.  We knew we wanted new construction, but didn’t want to go through the hassle of buying land and contracting a custom build.  So. Much. Work. We also knew we wanted to move over the summer for the least amount of disruption for our kids.

For months I watched realtor.com like a hawk keeping an eye on what came up.  Not a lot, to be honest, which was a bit disheartening.  So one day I called a local realtor.  No joke, she literally was like… “oh yea, I work with a builder who is just about to start a new house.  It should be ready by the end of August.  You can have it if you want.”  We were under contract on a new build within 3 weeks of my call to her.  Wow, that was easy.

Next came the job.  This one took a lot more effort.   Have you been on the job market recently?  It is rough.  Lots (and lots) of job applications.  Tons of networking.  Resume re-writing.  Lots of rejections.  2 interviews.  Just 2.  And then just like that, my husband landed his dream job.  Not just a job change – that would have been easy – but a full career pivot.  With just 2 interviews.  That, in itself, is a miracle these days!  He gets to do work he loves AND work from home.  More time for himself, and more time with the family.  We’re all happier with his new job.

And finally, the home sale.  This one seems easy after the rest.  We had stellar realtors (who were referred to us by realtor # 1 above) who got us under contract with a great offer within 5 days of listing our house!

There is a lot more that needs to happen between now and move day.  Packing boxes.  Saying goodbye to a house we’ve loved.  Helping our kids navigate a big change.

None of it is easy.

But for the first time in a long time, it feels like we’re heading in the right direction.  We’re heading toward more family dinners, more time with grandparents and cousins, less commuting, and a life that feels a little more aligned with what matters most to us.

I’ll keep you posted on how it all turns out.  Oh, and we keep seeing bulldogs everywhere to keep nudging and reassuring us as we make this huge life transition.
